Ceylon Association of Medical Acupuncturists Joins World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS)

The Ceylon Association of Medical Acupuncturists (CAMA) is proud to announce its formal acceptance as a member society of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS). WFAS, an international organization in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO), is the leading global platform for promoting the development, standardization, and international collaboration in acupuncture and moxibustion.

This milestone places Sri Lanka on the global acupuncture map and reflects the country’s growing contribution to the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and integrative health practices.

Since its establishment, CAMA has played a pioneering role in advocating for the professional recognition, regulation, and safe practice of acupuncture and TCM in Sri Lanka. The association has actively engaged in policy discussions, public education, and academic collaborations, thereby ensuring that acupuncture is practiced at the highest professional and ethical standards.

The success of CAMA is attributed to the collective leadership and dedicated service of its executive committee. The President, Dr. Vimukthi Asahara Samaranada, together with the Vice President Dr. Imesha Hemasinghe, Secretary Dr. Shishanthi Anuradha Perera, and Legal Advisor Attorney-at-Law Mr. Thineth Korasagalle , have provided vision, guidance, and tireless effort in steering the association toward this historic achievement. Their commitment has been instrumental in strengthening the credibility of acupuncture as a recognized branch of complementary and integrative medicine in Sri Lanka.

Speaking on this achievement, the President Dr. Vimukthi Asahara noted:

“Becoming a member of WFAS is not only an honor for CAMA, but also a recognition for all Sri Lankan practitioners committed to advancing acupuncture with professionalism, integrity, and evidence-based practice. We look forward to contributing to WFAS and representing Sri Lanka in the global acupuncture community.”

This membership will open new avenues for international collaboration, training, and knowledge exchange, enabling Sri Lankan practitioners to align with global standards while continuing to serve local communities.
