Sri Lankan Representation at WFAS Training on Acupuncture Standardization

The Ceylon Association of Medical Acupuncturists (CAMA) is proud to announce a significant achievement in the advancement of acupuncture practice in Sri Lanka through participation in an internationally recognized training program on acupuncture standardization. This prestigious program was jointly organized by the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies and the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, leading global institutions in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The training was conducted in Beijing, with academic and clinical sessions held at key institutions affiliated with CACMS. The program provided structured exposure to internationally accepted standards in acupuncture through a well-balanced combination of theoretical lectures, hands-on clinical demonstrations, and guided institutional visits.

Key areas covered during the training included:

  • International standards and guidelines for acupuncture practice
  • Safe needling techniques and infection control protocols
  • Standardization of acupuncture point locations and nomenclature
  • Clinical application of acupuncture in various conditions
  • Integration of acupuncture within modern healthcare systems

Participants were also given the opportunity to visit leading hospitals and research centers under CACMS, where they observed real-world clinical applications and high-volume patient care settings. These visits provided valuable insight into how standardized acupuncture is practiced within an advanced and regulated healthcare framework.

The program brought together practitioners from several countries, creating a platform for professional exchange and discussion on regulatory systems, education models, and clinical practices across different regions.

Sri Lanka was represented by Dr. Vimukthi Asahara, President of CAMA, and Dr. Anuradha Perera, Secretary of CAMA. Their participation marks a historic milestone, as they are the first acupuncture physicians from Sri Lanka to undergo formal international training specifically focused on acupuncture standardization.

This achievement reflects CAMA’s continued commitment to promoting high standards in acupuncture practice and aligning Sri Lanka with global developments in the field. The knowledge and experience gained through this program will contribute to strengthening clinical practices, supporting the development of national standards, and enhancing the recognition of acupuncture as a safe and effective therapeutic modality in Sri Lanka.

CAMA looks forward to further strengthening collaboration with international organizations such as WFAS and continuing its efforts in advancing acupuncture education, research, and professional practice in the country.
